15 Board Games That Would Actually Make Great Movies – /Film

September 21, 2022 by Film

Political intrigue continues to be a cornerstone of popular tv. From “Home of Cards” to “Game of Thrones,” we like watching corrupt individuals shift power characteristics. This translates completely into video games of social reduction, and a strong string of political thrillers within the landscape of “Coup” may hold untapped potential. Established in 2012 by Rikki Tahta, Sacha Alexander, and Haig Tahta, the video game starts with gamers getting two random cards, a secret mix of any of the 5 primary roles: Captain, Duke, Ambassador, Contessa, and Assassin. Each role allows for special capabilities, however gamers are allowed to lie about what functions they hold. Gamers can call out other gamers’ bluffs, resulting in them losing functions, or they can amass seven tokens to perform a coup and instantly get rid of a role from a player’s hand. The last gamer standing wins the day.

Though the political subplots of the “Star Wars” prequels get a great deal of hate, that labyrinth of influence is a great reference point for “Coup,” which would recreate the box art’s futuristic/intergalactic aesthetic. The video game’s lore mentions a corporatized federal government that has actually placed a rich couple of in positions of absolute power. This influences the production of a resistance group that attempts to penetrate the ranks, a pitch just in time for “Andor.” “Coup” would see a wealth of characters, both within the federal government and mainly outside of it, put their alliances to the test as they try to survive a society on the verge of revolt. Anyone could be conspiring with the resistance, and foreign aid can only get you so far.

For fans of: The “Star Wars” prequels, “House of Cards,” “Cloud Atlas”
