Speaking With Screen Rant after Marvel Studios’ huge San Diego Comic-Con discussion in which the studio revealed Phase 5 of the MCU, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” director Peyton Reed shared his enjoyment over the film being officially the very first in Phase 5:
“Starting Stage 5 is truly interesting for us, because, we’re the Ant-Man motion pictures … It’s our 3rd movie. It’s this trilogy now. However things take place in this film that are going to alter the Marvel Cinematic Universe permanently. And it’s fun for us that Scott Lang is at the center of that modification.”
We don’t understand much about “Quantumania,” however what we do know has a great deal of possibilities for the MCU at large. There’s the truth that the Quantum Realm already served to present time travel to deep space before the MCU started focusing on various worlds and dimensions. More significantly are the villains in the film: MODOK and Kang. Though we do not understand what the plans are for MODOK moving forward, he is a fascinating bad guy that’s more in tune with what appears like the method going forward for Marvel bad guys: wise, manipulative, calculated bad guys. We’re moving away from just titanic god-like purple people and towards brilliant, criminal masterminds. Then there’s Kang, who is currently validated to be the focus of the next saga in the MCU, along with the next huge Avengers-level villain after Thanos.
“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” flies into theaters on February 17, 2023.
