FAIRFIELD– Bring some tissues for a recently launched movie, which is based on journalist Michael Ausiello’s memoir about his 13-year relationship with photographer Kit Cowan, who was identified with cancer.
Opening across the country are:
“Spoiler Alert,” a movie in which writer Michael Ausiello (Jim Parsons) starts a roller-coaster flight of feelings when his partner Kit Cowan (Ben Aldridge) gets diagnosed with terminal cancer. This movie is ranked PG-13.
Opening in minimal release are:
“The Whale,” in which a 600-pound man (Brendan Fraser) can’t leave his house and is estranged from his teenage child, however wants to reconnect. This film is rated R.
“Empire of Light,” embeded in an English seaside town in the early 1980s. The film explores the magic of movie theater and romance and is rated R.
“Daddy Stu,” a re-release from earlier in the year, based upon the story of Stuart Long who, after an amateur boxing career, moves to Los Angeles imagining stardom. While scraping by as a grocery store clerk, he meets Carmen, a Catholic Sunday school instructor who appears immune to his bad-boy appeal. Figured out to win her over, the longtime agnostic starts going to church to impress her. But surviving a horrible motorbike accident leaves him questioning if he can use his second chance to help others find their way, leading to the unexpected realization he is suggested to be a Catholic priest. This film is ranked PG-13.
“I am DB Cooper,” which is loosely based on a true story. Two bounty hunter brothers come across an ailing old male called Rodney Bonnifield while collaborating his bail after a violent encounter on a dairy farm including a machete. Close to his sentencing, Bonnifield reveals to the bondsmen he remains in reality the notorious DB Cooper, the man responsible for the 1971 plane hijacking in the Pacific Northwest, and the ransom cash is still buried along the Columbia River. Up versus the clock with Bonnifield’s jail sentence looming, the group sets out on a modern-day treasure hunt to recover the cash he buried near a river 50 years earlier, discovering strange realities about Bonnifield and his connection to the only unsolved plane hijacking in U.S. history. This movie is not ranked.
“To the End,” a documentary over four years that catches the introduction of a new generation of leaders and the motion behind the most sweeping climate change legislation in U.S. history. The movie follows the increase of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, activist Varshini Prakash, environment policy writer Rhiana Gunn-Wright and political strategist Alexandra Rojas as they face brand-new challenges of management and power and work together to defend their generation’s right to a future. This film is rated R.
