‘ Coco’ Reported as Hispanic Heritage Month Selection for Movies on the Common

WORCESTER — The City of Worcester, in partnership with the Downtown Worcester Company Enhancement District, the Worcester Cultural Union, and Casita Cultura Latina, is delighted to announce a repetition of the popular Movies on the Common series. On Friday, Oct. 14, the general public is welcomed to a free screening of Disney PIXAR’s “Coco” on the Worcester Common.
Performing City Manager Eric Batista shared his pride in the City collaborating with Casita Cultural Latina for this occasion.
“October is Hispanic Heritage month, and this collaboration assists us to provide programs to all our citizens while celebrating cultural traditions of our second largest population,” he stated. “‘Coco’ is a wonderful movie that families can take pleasure in together under the stars.”
Valerie Zolezzi-Wyndham, co-founder of Casita Cultura Latina, stated that the film choice was a prompt choice.
“‘Coco’ provides more than simply home entertainment– the movie gives context to importance of Día de los Muertos to the Latino/a/e/ x neighborhood, in a way that’s available and satisfying for people of all ages and backgrounds,” she stated.
“Something we consistently heard throughout our summer season programs is that homeowners hoped we ‘d extend into the fall,” said Yaffa Fain, program organizer for the City’s Cultural Development Department. “We’re excited to be able to supply an additional free event for our neighborhood.”
The motion picture will begin at 6:30 p.m., though Fain advised movie-goers get here closer to 6 p.m. to discover seats. Participants are welcomed to bring their own seating or use seating offered on the Common, and Fain recommended guests dress warmly and bring blankets to enjoy the movie conveniently. Audio for “Coco” remains in English. Spanish closed captioning will be available.
Andrew McShane, program supervisor of the Downtown Worcester Service Enhancement District, stated that their tent on the Common will have a discount coupons for complimentary popcorn and $5 off at the Atrevete a Probar food truck. McShane said these discount coupons are first-come, first-serve, with a limitation of one per person. Prior to the start of the movie, activities for youth will be offered by Casita Cultura Latina, Essence Youth Arts, and the City of Worcester’s Department of Youth Opportunities.
“It’s our third year partnering with the City and sponsoring these events, which enables us to fill a need for access to totally free, family-friendly occasions for guests of any ages and backgrounds,” said McShane.
Zolezzi-Wyndham likewise shared that, “one of the goals of the film night is to raise awareness of Casita Cultura Latina’s upcoming Día de los Muertos event,” which is arranged to occur from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, on the Worcester Common.
