Here’s a look at this week’s new movies | Journal-Courier – Jacksonville Journal-Courier

– “Thor: Love and Thunder” (Disney, theaters): Retirement won’t last wish for Chris Hemsworth’s god of thunder in this Taika Waititi-directed extravaganza, including the return of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, who now is able to wield the magic hammer on her own, and the introduction of a bad guy played by Christian Bale.

– “Both Sides of the Blade” (IFC, theaters): Claire Denis directs Juliette Binoche and Vincent London in this film about a love triangle.

– “The Sea Beast” (Netflix): An animated adventure about a sea beast and a stowaway from “Big Hero 6” director Chris Williams.


-“ Hi, Bye-bye and Whatever In Between”(Netflix): Talia Ryder and Jordan Fisher star as a couple who has to decide whether to separate or stay together prior to college.

Opening Friday

– “Where the Crawdads Sing” (Sony, theaters): Delia Owens’ bestselling secret about the gorgeous, brilliant woman who matures in a North Carolina marsh pertains to the cinema with “Normal Individuals’s” Daisy Edgar-Jones in the lead.

– “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris” (Focus, theaters): Lesley Manville plays a British maid who dreams of owning a couture Christian Dior gown.

– “Persuasion” (Netflix): Dakota Johnson stars in this Jane Austen adaptation about the perky, modern Anne Elliot.

– “Bed Rest” (STX): “In the Heights” star Melissa Barrera plays a pregnant female in this horror.

– “Don’t Make Me Go” (Amazon Prime Video): A daddy with a brain growth (John Cho) takes his teenage child on a trip to find her long-lost mom.
