Moonlight Movies on the Beach are back for the 20th year this summertime, this time with 2 brand-new, less sandy locations.
This year’s free summer film series sponsored by Long Beach Transit will occur at Granada Beach and the Long Beach City College (LBCC) Liberal Arts and Pacific Coast schools.
In past years, the screenings have been held at Granada Beach, Junipero/Cherry Beach and Alamitos Beach near the Villa Riviera. Organizers picked to relocate the screenings to LBCC campuses due to their more available parking and bigger places.
“The primary factor [we altered places] is just to be more inclusive and get more individuals,” said Kris Gragson, a spokesperson for the occasion. “These are complimentary family-friendly occasions, and we want to do them in other areas to open to people that possibly have actually never ever been to something like this.”
The free motion picture screenings will occur on the following dates at roughly 8 p.m.:
- June 21– “Coco” at Granada Beach
- June 28– “Black Widow” at Granada Beach
- June 30– “Cruella” at LBCC Liberal Arts Campus
- July 7– “Wall E” at LBCC Pacific Coast School
- July 12– “Goonies” at Granada Beach
- July 14– “Harry Potter Prisoner of Azkaban” at LBCC Liberal Arts School
- July 19– “Dirty Dancing” at Granada Beach
- July 21– “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” at LBCC Pacific Coast Campus
- July 26– “Encanto” at Granada Beach
- August 2– “Unusual Science” at Granada Beach
- August 4– “Spiderman No Other Way House” at LBCC Pacific Coast Campus
- August 9– “Luca” at Granada Beach
- August 11– “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” at LBCC Liberal Arts Campus
- August 16– “The Princess Bride-to-be” at Granada Beach
- August 18– “The Wizard of Oz” at LBCC Liberal Arts Campus
The events will include pre-show home entertainment from live bands and “satisfy and welcomes” depending upon the film, such as Darth Vader and Stormtroopers for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” according to Gragson.
Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to sit on and are welcome to bring their own picnic suppers, though food trucks will exist. The film screenings are family-friendly and pet-friendly.
The screenings will occur at the following addresses: Granada Beach at 4120 Ocean Blvd., the LBCC Liberal Arts Campus 4901 East Carson St. and the LBCC Pacific Coast School at 1305 Pacific Coast Hwy.
