Movies in the park start Friday – Medford News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News – Mail Tribune

Central Point and Medford both use films under the stars during summertime, and they both start June 3

One of the earliest and finest signs that school is done and summer is about to be in full force is the start of outside films in local parks.

Simply as the evening sunshine sticks around a tad bit longer, outdoor movies use a fun way to get some fresh air, take pleasure in cooler night temperature levels and spread out a blanket to relax.

A summertime staple for regional families, films in the park are offered by the cities of Central Point and Medford. Motion pictures are held on choose Fridays, beginning today, June 3.

Both cities will start their summertime movie lineups with the 2021 Disney hit “Encanto,” which follows the adventures of the capitivating Colombian household the Madrigals.

Central Point entertainment manager Nikki Petersen said city authorities were looking forward to this summertime’s movies and other offerings. Even during pandemic limitations last summertime, Petersen stated, citizens still collected– appropriately spaced out– to enjoy films in the park.

“We did scale it back, but we luckily had the ability to still keep it going, considering that it was outdoors. Individuals required … something. This was a way to engage with the community without seeming like you were in a mask, and separated you might feel like things were kind of great still,” Petersen said.

One modification is that no live music will be included before the weekly movies yet.

“We’re not quite all set to bring music back, like we’ve carried out in the past. No concerts yet. Simply films for now. We’re keeping things a bit simple, however we have some fantastic films planned.”

Central Point will include films at a rotating list of city parks, while Medford will host its movies mostly at Bear Creek Park off Highland Drive.

Two special occasions are on tap. One movie will be featured during the Medford Cruise (June 17), and a “flick and float” will provide a film screening throughout a swim session June 24 at the Jackson Aquatics Center.

Both cities will also offer scary Halloween flicks at special locations; “Poltergeist” will play at Central Point’s historical Masonic cemetery, adjacent to Don Jones Park.

Medford will offer a Halloween function, total with a movie, costume contest and other activities at the City of Medford Service Center.

Movies begin at sunset, unless otherwise noted.

July 1: “Sing 2” (PG), Twin Creeks Park, 555 Twin Creeks Crossing Loop

July 22: “Spider-Man” (PG-13), Robert Pfaff Park, 635 Manzanita St.

Aug. 5: “Paw Patrol, the Movie” (G), Don and Flo Bohnert Farm Park, 525 Stone Pointe Drive

Aug. 19: “Peter Bunny 2” (PG), Don Jones Park, 223 W. Vilas Roadway

Oct. 28: “Poltergeist” (PG-13), Masonic cemetery (surrounding to Don Jones Park)

Medford

June 3: “Encanto” (PG), Bear Creek Park, 1520 Siskiyou Blvd.

. June 10: “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” (PG-13), Bear Creek Park, 1520 Siskiyou Blvd.

. June 17: “Back to the Future” (PG), Fichtner Mainwaring Park, 334 Holmes Ave.

Held throughout the Medford Cruise, “Back to the Future” will be a drive-in-style film. Parking begins at 6 p.m. Limited to 200 vehicles. Nonvehicle entries permitted after parking has filled.

June 24: “Raya” (PG), Jackson Aquatics Center, 816 Top Ave.

A “Flick and Drift” event, the movie will be played in the pool location and is consisted of with routine swim time admission. Floaties are enabled, and totally free popcorn will be readily available. Event starts at 7 p.m.

Oct. 21: “Hocus Pocus” (PG), City of Medford Service Center, 411 W. Eighth St.

A haunted drive-in-style film; extra activities will consist of an outfit contest, embellished car contest, trunk-or-treat and food trucks.
