Montecito was a stand-in for scenes in Europe in a quiet film about a rich young American guy with lots of time and money on his hands. He is all set for adventure– especially if it includes an appealing girl. This “Flying A” movie– “The Entice of the Mask”– was released on May 17, 1915.
A number of areas in Montecito were used, consisting of the Crocker-Sperry Ranch referred to as “Las Fuentes.” The website of this cattle ranch is now the Birnam Wood Golf Club.
“The reservoir at the Crocker-Sperry Cattle ranch in Montecito will be used for a Venetian scene today … A team of workmen yesterday afternoon took out a bunch of specifically prepared surroundings and put this in such a way that the preferred impact will be secured. Gondolas will likewise be utilized to include the truer atmosphere.”– Santa Barbara Morning Press, February 27, 1915
