Anybody not already captivated to the point of obsession with Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” film from the on-set paparazzi images of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken ought to have been completely persuaded by the uproarious, “2001”-pricing estimate teaser trailer. Details are still limited on what the story of the motion picture actually is, but from the images available up until now and knowing the script was co-written by Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, all signs point to it being a gleaming subversion of gender and identity. With a packed supporting cast that consists of Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Kate McKinnon, Will Ferrell, America Ferrera, Michael Cera, Hari Neff, Rhea Perlman, Emerald Fennell, Kingsley Ben-Adir and much more, if anything, expectations may now be running too high for this movie to be the most fun and smartest movie ever based upon a legacy brand name of plastic kids’s toys.– Mark Olsen
