I Married a Witch

This 1942 motion picture starring the vampy Veronica Lake is big on beauty, albeit of another period. The black and white film’s plot involves a 17th-century witch who returns to life for revenge. To create chaos in the life of the descendant of the guy who doomed her to death, she casts a love spell on him, with some comical results. While the film isn’t frightening, it’s packed with old-fashioned gender stereotypes tinged with the misogynistic concept that women, even witches, live to serve males. Still, it’s a mild motion picture scare-wise and has some gorgeous witchy scenes.
